Your Personal Brand · Lesson 3 of 6

Your Personal Brand Pillars

A strong personal brand helps you land interviews and offers because it makes it easy for people to understand and remember you.

1 Learn the concept

A strong personal brand helps you land interviews and offers because it makes it easy for people to understand and remember you. Personal brand pillars are the three or four ideas that define how you want to be known, such as your strengths, values and the kind of work you do best. This lesson shows how to define your pillars and use them consistently across your resume, profiles and conversations.

Three personal brand pillars each paired with a piece of evidenceTHREE PILLARS WITH EVIDENCEClear communicatorEvidence: a blog post anda newsletter I wroteData-curiousEvidence: a report thattracked results for aclass projectDependableEvidence: delivered everyapprenticeship task ontime
Each pillar needs proof. Evidence is what makes a brand believable.

2 See it in action

  • Pillars are specific, such as "clear writer", "curious about data" and "reliable under deadlines."
  • Support each pillar with evidence: a project, a result or a reference.
  • Use the same pillars on your resume, online profiles and interview answers.
  • Keep them honest: a brand you cannot back up damages trust.

Worked example

Turning pillars into a summary

Pillars: clear communicator, data-curious, dependable.

Resume summary: "Marketing graduate who writes clearly, tracks results and delivers on time. Built a newsletter, reported on a class campaign and completed a three-month apprenticeship without missing a deadline."

Interview use: choose one story for each pillar.

Check: every adjective in your summary should have a story behind it.
