Personal brand and career profile workbook

From the lesson The “What” and “Who” You Know

NameDate

Work through each step on paper or on screen. Use a real business, a project of your own or a friend’s idea. Keep this page for your portfolio.

1Write ten skills and ten people you know.

2Choose three people to contact this week and write a short message.

3Track replies in your workbook.

Worked example to compare with: A short message to a contact

  • Message: "Hi Sam, I am finishing a marketing course and I would love your advice. You moved from retail into marketing. Could I ask two questions about how you started? Ten minutes by phone would be great."
  • Why it works: it is specific, it respects their time and it asks for advice, not a job.
  • Follow-up: thank them in writing and share what you did with their advice.
  • Check: send three messages like this and track replies in your profile.

Check yourself

  • I can explain "The “What” and “Who” You Know" in one sentence.
  • I used a real business or project, not just an idea.
  • I know what I will do next, and by when.
